Toyota dexron iii11/18/2023 ![]() Sorry to start a new thread on this, but I've literally spent hours on this, only to continue hitting a brick wall with information. The owner's manual says to use Dexron III. Note: I don't have an owners manual, and my truck is also in the shop getting the t-belt done among other things and I can't go there and check it right now to see what it says. ste Discussion starter 12 (Edited) I emailed Valvoline about Dexron VI usage in Toyota Dexron III transmission, here is the conversation: Comments: Hi, I want to replace atf in a 2001 Toyota sienna with A541E (Aisin-Warner) transmission. But I doubt anything significant enough to require an ATF with entirely different characteristics. Dexron III fluid, version H Ford's Mercon V and Mercon SP Daimler Chrysler's MS - 9602 ( ATF + 4 ) Toyota's Fuel Saving WS ATF, and Detroit Diesel. There might be some very minor improvements in the AT from year to year. However, Toyota goes to recommend Type TIV in the SAME. Question: What is correct? Can I use the Mobil 1 I bought in the tranny and PS system, or should I listen to the lexus dealer. Toyota recommends Dexron III in the A245E AT before and including 2002. How can lexus tell me to run T-IV when the dipstick reads otherwise? ![]() It's apparantly also listed to run that stuff on the dipstick. In many different threads on this site, I've heard I need to run Dexron Type III ATF in my 1999 model. As for Amsoil ATF specs Even the Amsoil OEM version of their ATF thin is 5.8, still better than the min requirement of 4.2 Amsoil has warranty secure for their products. it also says that it maintains viscosity better Than Dexron 3. They said it complies both with Dexron and T-IV ? Not sure how this can be, but anyway.Ĭalled 2 different lexus dealerships, both said that their systems show to use T-IV for all 1998-2002 LX470 models for the tranny and only Dexron ATF for the power steering system. ATF Multi Vehicle DX III is an advanced technology premium mineral, multi vehicle, red coloured, automatic transmission fluid that exceeds the requirements of GM Dexron® IIIH. This says that the thinner Dexron VI is better than the min shear viscosity of 4.2. I bought some Mobil 1 synthetic ATF today, called them, they said I could use it with my truck. ![]() I've done TONS of searching on this, only to have completely different answers I'm really getting frustrated Using Type T-IV as substite may cause damage of old enough transmissions, so it is best to use less aggressive fluids meet Dexron II or III specs. However, Toyota dealerships no longer carry Dexron III, and recommend Toyota T-IV instead.
